“Heart Beats” is an anthology of poetry about the various aspects of what makes us tick or makes a heart-beat.
This will be about love, life, happiness, anything that makes life more joyful or tolerable.
Let’s face it. These are tough times and there have been many events in 2020 which have many of us shaking our heads. People who were once friends have gone their separate ways. Some are soul searching, examining life more closely as time has leant more for this.
Heart Beats is about working through and maybe even overcoming these challenges. …
Tips for when you get sidetracked
In the past couple of weeks-via Meetup-I have participated in Writing Sprints. It’s a pretty cool way to get things done, especially when you get sidetracked, like I do. It is not a new concept for me, but I had not participated in one in ages. A couple of writers and I were doing them consistently, but life changes and all, we departed. It’s all good, though. Recently, at a TAF Talks presentation by Donna Gephart, I learned about how she writes 25 minutes and then takes short breaks, then back to writing. So…
Such a passion for life, he had heartfelt goals; raising his daughter to become a confident woman; he lived his life to become the best man for his family; he saw the worth of souls and was a shining light to those who knew him.
Now, he is gone.
Just like that; He has been preparing his entire life for his homegoing; but it was not to be his time, just yet. He had two daughters and a son to live out his life for, to witness their walks of life, yet he is gone.

Retirement is an interesting term often used for people when they are older
Enlisting in new adventures can be fun and educational as well as uncomfortable
Taking each day as it comes helps when you have the luxury of such a treat
Instead many retirees are facing less than plentiful resources and need stimuli
Restlessness may come about when someone has less to live on than a dollar
Enrolling in programs is challenging and it matters to have help to console
Despite attempts to act as if all is well it is important to find means to…
Six Sentence Story Prompt Challenge
It was not long before Horace started exhibiting marked changes in his personality, mostly exhibiting sadness, just about two weeks into being closed in his house.
His wife, Charlotte, was at her wit’s end trying to keep her mind as Horace followed her around all day long.
It was all because Horace identified as a salesman in a non-essential business, and he was lost as to what to do with his time.
Never having hobbies outside of his bowling league on Sunday nights, no way to do that with all the restrictions, he would pace…

The Spirit of Music Plays On
As I look at the tan shaded keys of the piano
Crackled dingey and peeling
Melodies are now memories
Of the time when elegance was about tea and piano time
When we all dressed proper and sang deep from the soul
Just as when we faced the hurricanes
We gathered at the farm
Secured the property
Gathered by the waiting piano
Until the master touched the keys
And all worries of wind and rain
Were belted out to calm the storms
And we survived
Our dear piano survived
Always leaving us with peace

Poetic Humor
A friend asked me to write a poem call “Quarantini” about a martini related to COVID-19, of course using some humor. I wrote the poem, which sounded like a ditty and changed it up. This may be my worse poem ever and I am letting it play.
Quarantini Time
When COVID-19 came along
My friend suggested I write a poem
All about a new martini
Given the name quarantini
In what they call a quarantine
Many people stay unseen
Keeping in their houses closed
Running out for a reload
Life becomes about books and TV
Some will party…
Poetry and Memoir
This was a moment of my life
It had to happen to enjoy my first dance
It was at my Kentucky school
Student council raising money
Created a Valentine’s date match
Sweaty palms and pencil in hand
This one signed up for a date
All for the Valentine’s dance
Twelve years old seventh grade student
Unsure of how to prepare
In stepped my big sister
After dying her red dress
And sharing her white blouse
She carefully applied my makeup
An expert of creating beauty
Nervously excited to meet my date
Daddy dropped me at the school
